A GROUP of Keighley school pupils have had their horizons broadened as part of a programme designed to show young people what they can aspire to.

The nine University Academy Keighley year 11 students toured the House of Commons and were invited to a conference staged by renowned IT company Microsoft.

All the students are involved in a programme called Global Diversity Positive Action, (GDPA) which aims to help individuals make positive, lasting life changes.

The initiative makes participants more employable through enhancing CVs, improving interview techniques, linking students with personal mentors and arranging talks delivered by inspirational business people.

A spokesman for UAK said the pupils who travelled to London last Tuesday (Nov 11) were each provided with a smart suit for the occasion, sponsored by Simon Cope of SKOPES menswear Leeds.

"It was a really good experience for them," he added.

"They were invited to the Microsoft "Future De-coded" conference at Excel, for an inspirational talk by chief envisioning officer Dave Coplin.

"The House of Commons tour was arranged by Keighley MP Kris Hopkins.

"We were lucky enough to enter the gallery when Home Secretary Theresa May was giving a speech. It was fantastic for the students to be able to see that."
