YEAR four pupils at a Keighley primary school have been introduced to some of what ordinary people in Britain experienced during the First and Second World Wars.

The 48 youngsters from St Anne's Catholic Primary School were taken on a trip to Eden Camp Modern History Theme Museum, in Malton.

Closer to home they were taken in four groups to For Teas Cafe, in North Street, which is based on a 1940s-style theme.

Cafe owners and managers, Janet and Chay Croden, treated the visiting children to afternoon teas and gave them a chance to dress up in items of wartime civilian and military clothing.

Chay staged presentations about 1940s-style fashions and culture and showed the children some of the many evocative pieces of memorabilia on display in the cafe.

She and her mother, Janet, said it had been a pleasure to host such well behaved pupils.

Year four class teacher Claire Simons said: "It's nice to have such a great community link, For Teas is only down the road from the school.

"The children are really engaged by it. It's like a big treat for them and they don't even realise how much they are learning."
