A TEACHER training programme being offered at a Keighley district school is set to expand.

South Craven School is now in its third year of providing the Pinnacle Schools Direct Programme, and is looking to recruit graduates for the 2015 course.

One of the latest people to benefit from the training is Jessica Mahler, a graduate in French and German from Durham University.

A spokesman for South Craven School said: "Jessica, who started here in September, is full of praise for the way the programme is run. She started off with an eight-week placement at Leeds University where she had lectures on methodology and theory along with observation in local schools.

"Jessica has found both the interview process and the school experience programme very personal and supportive, as our teachers are readily available for advice and help.

"Unlike the university-based PGCE course, students at Pinnacle Direct start at the beginning of the school term, September, and are well into their training, by half term.

"With only 12 students on the course at any one time, they are assured of individual care and support from the teachers here, who mentor them throughout their time at South Craven."

Over the coming year, South Craven will expand its operations to work with York and Leeds Trinity Universities and is also looking to increase the number of subjects it offers.
