A NATIONAL silver award for excellence in PE and sport has been presented to Haworth Primary School.

The Sainsbury’s School games mark recognises those schools which develop competitive sport both in lessons and in extracurricular competitions.

Haworth Primary, which is part of the Oakbank schools cluster, regularly participates in a variety of events organised by sports partnership manager Steve Bell and his team of sports leaders.

Sue Roberts, the specialist PE teacher at Haworth Primary School, said: “It is a joy to work at Haworth Primary. We have excellent facilities, enthusiastic pupils and a very supportive head teacher.

"We are busy developing house competitions in sports such as ultimate frisbee and orienteering, as well as the more traditional activities of football and rounders.

"The pupils love going to Mr Bell's competitions at Oakbank and feel proud to represent their school.

"Our aim at Haworth is to increase pupils' activity levels while also keeping PE fun. We have a tyre park which is used at breaks and lunchtimes and have recently been awarded a primary spaces grant which means we have a fantastic, brightly coloured multi-use games area at the rear of the school.

"Recent drainage work to our large playground ensures pupils can enjoy outdoor PE throughout the year."
