STAFF from West Yorkshire Trading Standards (WYTS) have been running a stall at Keighley Campus Leeds City College as part of the college's Stay Safe programme.
The WYTS stand focused on some of the risks and legal issues associated with smokeless and so-called niche tobacco, which includes chewing tobacco and shisha smoking.
A spokesman for Keighley Campus explained: "This was to raise awareness and discuss the effects and dangers with students, as young people are often not aware that shisha is still harmful.
"The illegal element comes from the fact that often shisha is smoked inside cafes, which is effectively breaking the law on smoking in enclosed public spaces."
She said that other groups invited in to run stands at the college during the Stay Safe initiative have included Karma Nirvana, which combats forced marriage, Stop Hate UK, which tackles hate crime and discrimination and Sustrans, which concentrates on sustainable transport.
The spokesman added: "Stay Safe is organised by our student engagement team and between December 1 and 12 it is including additional activities such as personal safety and gang awareness tutorials led by West Yorkshire Police and anti-bullying workshops.
"We've also had an anti-bullying poster competition, which around 130 students have entered."
