AN international programme set up to encourage young people to build a sustainable, environmentally-friendly world has recognised the efforts of a Keighley school.
The Eco-Schools scheme has this month (January) presented Holy Family Catholic School with a bronze Eco-Schools award.
A spokesman for Holy Family said: "Our students, staff and parents here at Holy Family have been successful in achieving this award.
"An improvement plan was implemented which covered the areas of biodiversity, litter, energy and recycling.
"Our students have been involved in raising money for charity through recycling old clothes, and on December 17 last year we had The Big Tidy Up, which involved students and staff volunteering to clean up litter in the school grounds.
"Also, one part of the school grounds has been cleared and students are planning to construct a nature area there.
"February has been designated as 'Energy month' and efforts are under way to reduce the carbon footprint of the school. We are hoping to achieve the Silver award by the end of the academic year."
