EASTBURN youngsters had a great time competing in a schools dance contest despite not winning.

The 14 youngsters from Eastburn Junior and Infant School had reached the northern finals of the National Great Big Dance Off.

The northern final saw them compete against 12 primary and 16 secondary schools last month at Leeds Town Hall.

The Eastburn children, who came seventh, were all aged nine to 11 and had been drawn from years five and six.

Eastburn teacher David Wilson said: “The competition went well - they all enjoyed it but unfortunately we didn't win.”

Mr Wilson’s team were picked for the northern finals after devising a dance last autumn and sending a video to the judges.

The Great Big Dance is the only national dance competition aimed solely at schools.

It aims to provide a professional stage where children of all ages and abilities can enjoy their performance in front of family and friends..

The winners of the northern heat will now compete in the national finals in Birmingham in June.
