AWARDS were dished out to achievers at a South Craven School graduation event for senior students.

More than 160 upper sixth formers attended, alongside guests and staff.

The gathering in the school's Fells building was addressed by Shane Toy, who has recently been appointed deputy head at Skipton Academy. He used to be head of year 13 at South Craven.

A school spokesman said: "Shane spoke about how the students had changed in the seven years they'd been attending South Craven, and talked about how their lives would continue to change in the years to come as they go on to university and employment.

"He wished all the students well and encouraged them to embrace what lies ahead."

Recipients of many of the awards presented knew of their success in advance, but there were also eleven prizes announced for the first time.

The spokesman added: "These students had been chosen by either head teacher Dr Andrew Cummings or the sixth form team.

"Their awards included prizes for 'Sixth Form Legend' which is probably unique to South Craven!

"These awards were for students considered to be dependable, nice people who get involved in things. The prizes this year went to George Johnson and Beth Wild."
