PARKSIDE School students have been introduced to the idea of reading for pleasure.
One lesson a week in English for pupils at the Cullingworth school was dedicated to reading for pleasure.
Matthew Pickard, assistant head of English, said reading regularly could be particularly helpful to build skills in English, which can also have an impact on other lessons.
He said: All students in all year groups were given the opportunity to go to the library at the start of the half-term and choose a book.
“The students have responded well to this and many have remarked they have read much more than they normally would do.”
Parents were sent a list of books that might be of interest to their children so they could continue their reading habits through the summer holidays.
Mr Pickard added: “It will be fantastic if they can keep up this reading over the summer. Some might need more encouragement than others.”
