KEIGHLEY district pupils have excelled in an art and design exhibition hosted by a popular attraction near Leeds.

The students from South Craven School created and put forward works for the latest Red Kite A Level art and design exhibition staged at Harewood House.

Among the successful pupils were Ewan Smith, who picked up a commendation in the Product Design category, for his design for a coat stand.

Amy McCann won the textile category, and her distinctive, eye-catching effort was also judged to be the Best in Show.

A spokesman for South Craven School said: "The exhibition is an annual event and features a wide selection of work made by students.

"Each school can nominate two pieces of work, so for South Craven to win two prizes in separate categories, is a tribute to both the students and their teachers."

The exhibition runs until Sunday September 6, and brings together A Level design work from those schools which are part of the Red Kite Teaching School Alliance.

A spokesman for the event said: "Past exhibitors have gone on to study their subjects at some of the most highly regarded design colleges in the country, before going on to forge careers in the creative industries."
