A SERIES of grants awarded to a Keighley school's gardening group will enable it to bring forward its plans to begin a range of new projects.

The Earth Warriors at Worth Valley Primary School have thanked Keighley Community Chest committee, Keighley Acorn Trust and North of England Horticultural Society for offering financial support.

A spokesman for the group said: "Their grants have allowed the Earth Warriors to proceed to the next stage sooner than would otherwise have been possible.

"From October we will be planting our own kitchen garden, which will enable the pupils to learn about growing food and herbs.

"We will then be cooking the produce with the school cook Judith Moyles.

"We will also make a "Nurture Nature" outdoor classroom by building a lean-to in the nurture area.

"All these projects will allow the pupils to appreciate nature and take pride in their school and community again."

The Earth Warriors group was originally set up by the nearby Sue Belcher Centre's Craft Tea Corner.

It has previously received donations of gardening equipment from Keighley's B&Q branch and money from Morrisons Supermarket's community fund.
