NEW year 12 students at South Craven School have enjoyed a fun start to the next stage of their academic career.

They were treated to the ever-popular induction day, designed to help integrate students who have progressed from South Craven's year 11 with pupils who have joined from other schools.

As in previous years' induction days, tutor groups were encouraged to attend dressed according to themes, such as pirates, 'brickies and cowboys.

They then took part in a variety of activities, such as writing and performing songs, debating the concept of democracy and competing to build the highest "Eye-ful Tower" from the rather unorthodox building materials of dried spaghetti and marsh mallows.

A spokesman for the school said: "Finally there was the Let’s Get Physical assault course devised by the year 13 PE students, the intention of which seemed to be to get the year 12 competitors as wet and muddy as possible.

"It involved a series of challenges, including crawling under nets, hurdling and running between posts accompanied by large buckets of water being thrown.

"Any teacher brave enough to take part with their students was invariably targeted for the water treatment!"
