PARKSIDE School students went on to the pitch during a Bradford City game to hand over money to help burns victims.

Teacher Ben Miller and students Adam Vaux and Callum Wear presented a cheque for £685 to the Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit.

The money was raised during the Cullingworth school’s Claret and Amber Campaign to tie in with the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster.

Students had given a cash donation to attend school wearing the two famous colours of the Bradford City kit.

Ben, Adam and Callum attended a match at the Valley Parade ground between Bradford City and Peterborough.

Parkside School has close links with the fire disaster because two of its students, Felix and Rupert Greenwood, and their father Peter, were among the 56 people who lost their lives.

The school keeps the brothers’ memories alive by presenting the annual Greenwood Memorial Prize For The Parkside School Child Of Achievement.

Two trees were planted in the grounds in memory of the boys and a plaque and painting by Joe Scarborough are displayed in the main reception area.

One of the trees died, so during this year year’s commemoration of the Student Leadership Team replaced it by planting a cherry tree.
