A JUGGLING stilt walker provided entertainment at a Keighley school for disabled athletes from across Bradford district.

Members of several clubs run by Bradford Disability Sport and Leisure (BDSL) gathered at University Academy Keighley for the party.

These included members of Keighley’s Monday Leisure Club, Paralympics and Junior Sports Academy, as well as local teenagers training for regional and national Special Olympics competitions.

Joining members, their families and carers were guests including Keighley town mayor Javaid Akhtar.

BDSL celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2015, and highlights of the year include Keighley powerlifters James Crossley and Chris Woodhead winning seven medals between them at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.

A group of members will ride from Bradford to its German twin town of Hamm in June this year on a six-day cycling challenge.

More than 60 athletes from BDSL will compete in the national Special Olympics Games in Sheffield in the summer of 2017, in sports including cycling, basketball, golf, ten-pin bowling, football and swimming.

BDSL is seeking volunteers.

The charity stressed people did not need to be qualified coaches, but could instead help at some of its clubs, drive minibuses, become a trustee, or become part of the management team.

Coaching bursaries were also available through Creating Connections for anyone working with people with a disability.
