OAKBANK School has raised over £4,400 for charity.

Students and staff at the Keighley school coined-in the cash last year through a range of activities.

Causes to benefit included Oakbank house charities Manorlands, the NSPCC, Oxfam and The Principle Trust.

And money was also raised for the RFL Benevolent Fund in memory of Keighley Cougars star Danny Jones, who collapsed and died during a match last year.

Students made donations to wear uniform accessories, in Cougars colours.

Mr Jones' widow Lizzie and representatives of the various beneficiaries attended a presentation ceremony at the Oakworth Road school.

"It was fantastic to have all the charity representatives in school to collect their cheques and it gave some of our students the opportunity to meet them and talk about their fundraising efforts," said Hannah Borkala, Oakbank's marketing and event officer.

"We were also very pleased that Lizzie Jones and her children were able to come along to collect the cheque for the RFL fund.

"And we were delighted to have Mavis Coggings, whose husband Nigel worked at Oakbank but sadly passed away last year, and her daughter at the event.

"Money raised in memory of Nigel went to Manorlands as he spent some time there before he died."

Manorlands senior fundraiser Hayley Ibbotson paid tribute to the school.

"We're so grateful to all the staff and students for their continued support and it was a pleasure to be invited to the presentation to thank some of the students in person," she said.

"Everyone at the school does a wonderful job supporting us, coming up with new ideas and ways to raise funds throughout the year.

"Their efforts make such a difference, helping us to provide incredible care in the local community."
