STUDYING is a picnic for Oakbank School student Rohid Ali thanks to his skill as an inventor.

The year 13 student is studying A-level Product Design at the Keighley school with tutor Andy Hartley.

Rohid recently designed a flat-packed occasional chair for picnics and camping for an external client.

He had a prototype of the chair cut out on the CNC router machine at Keighley College bosses hi-tech Fab Lab in Keighley College, with the help of Bruce Gregg.

The chair has to be completed at Oakbank School as part of Rohid’s final A level assessment this summer.

The Fab Lab has equipment that can provide 3D printing, laser cutting, programming and electronics.

The Fab Lab attended part of last autumn’s 2015 that British Science Festival in Bradford, alongside Keighley College’s STAR Centre.

Its team illustrated how computers such as the Raspberry Pi, which can cost less than £30, can be used in conjunction with 3D printing to create a variety of projects, from computer games design to robotics.

Visitors were able to try their skills at the Minecraft game and control a 3D printed robot arm. There was also a static display including a fully functioning copy of the Mars Rover.
