A TRIP to one of the country’s top seats of learning showed University Academy Keighley students the importance of A-levels.

Students spent two days at the University of Cambridge to receive advice on how to choose the right A-levels to support their prospective careers.

Danyal Javed and fellow year 11 students were surprised how different the streets and houses looked in the historic university town.

Danyal said: “The architecture in Cambridge would definitely look out of place in Keighley, but the large college buildings with pillars climbing the sides went seemingly unnoticed by the ‘locals’.”

The UAK students began their visit by walking around the different Cambridge colleges, including the prestigious Queens College.

In the Law faculty Danyal found hundreds of students waiting to hear one talk on the importance of A level choices, followed by a question and answer session with current Cambridge students.

Danyal added: “This brought it into perspective for us as when the talk started many started tapping away with their pencils taking notes on almost everything that was said.

“I can genuinely say that this has impacted on the way we all think about our A levels and has showed us that we have to be smart in picking subjects that support each other.”

This was a beneficial trip and should be done again for next year's Year 11.”
