CHANGE was the theme of this year’s UNICEF Day at Glusburn Primary School.

Pupils took in their loose change to donate to the United Nations charity, to protect children caught up in crisis.

Richard Hunt, the headteacher, said: “By making our donation we have helped keep more children safe around the world.

“Children are the hardest hit in emergencies. When conflict or disaster strikes, they are put in terrible danger. Many lose their homes, their schools, even their lives.”

During UNICEF Day the staff held a bake-off, with the theme of money. The winning cake was judged by a former school cook.

The children took part in an art competition, made a giant coin trail around school and dressed in the colours of the Syrian flag, highlighting the plight of many children who become refugees.

Mr Hunt added: "We also raffled 'roles for the day' with children taking on staff jobs such as school administrator and headteacher!”

Year two student Evie Lewis shared the role of head with Mr Hunt.
