STAFF from a Keighley district school involved in groundbreaking physical education research travelled to the House of Lords to discuss the project.

Haworth Primary School head teacher Helen Thompson and PE teacher Sue Roberts were invited to Westminster by Baroness Campbell of Loughborough.

Key stage 1 pupils at Haworth Primary have been regularly having their activity levels monitored in school by researchers from Leeds Beckett University.

PE lessons have been filmed and Mrs Roberts has implemented key parts of the Youth Sports Trusts Start to Move programme: "locomotion, object control, balance and stability".

The school says that it has noticed its children are now much more active at break and lunchtimes.

The visit to the House of Lords featured a screening of a film which shows Mrs Roberts taking PE lessons and pupils talking about their experiences of PE and sport at Haworth Primary.

Mrs Roberts said going to the House of Lords was a highlight of her 32-year career.

Mrs Thompson said: “The school has been absolutely delighted to be part of this pioneering research.

"As a PE Centre of Excellence for West Yorkshire Sport, we like to be at the forefront of new developments.

"It was a real honour to receive this invitation from Baroness Campbell. The visit was a credit to the dedication of the staff team and particularly Mrs Roberts in her creative delivery of the PE curriculum."
