PLAY could be a lifesaver thanks to students of University Academy Keighley.
Teenagers working towards their BTEC Children’s Play, Learning and Development allocations recently completed first aid training.
They learned how to deal with children and babies who needed care, and how to respond to emergencies.
Subjects included what to do with an unconscious casualty, casualty care, resuscitation and choking.
The students watched video clips, listened to 999 emergency calls, were given demonstrations, and practiced on medical dummies.
St John Ambulance delivered the intensive Paediatric First Aid Course, with the majority of our students achieving a pass, qualifying them to administer first aid to children.
Subject teacher. Rubina Halim said: “Students now benefit from an important life skill and as well as preparing them for emergency situations. It will also enhance their CVs in preparation for the world of work.”
