INNOVATIVE measures to improve learning have been showcased by Parkside School head Andy Taylor in a message to parents.

Mr Taylor has highlighted measures at the Cullingworth school ranging from extra-curricular trips to a mathematics partnership with Sky Sports.

In the school’s March newsletter, he revealed that students were travelling as far afield as the Isle of Man, Poland and the Alps during the current academic year.

Mr Taylor said: “There have been a multitude of extracurricular trips and activities for students recently.

“This significantly enhances both the academic and social education of our students and creates outstanding citizen role models for the future.

“The inaugural rugby tour to the north-west last year was a resounding success. This year has seen the team going off to pit their wits against teams from the Isle of Man.

“The Humanities Faculty is undertaking fieldwork visits and we have the ski trip and Poland visits to come.”

Mr Taylor said he was proud that Parkside School had been shortlisted for both the Sky Sports Awards, which improves the learning of mathematics through sport, as well as the recent Telegraph and Argus awards for most Improved School.

He said: “The nominations reflect what everyone here at Parkside School continues to undertake in order to make significant steps towards giving students the education they deserve.”

Mr Taylor highlighted a host of extra work currently being provided teachers, including revision sessions during school holidays, to prepare five of the year groups for external exams.

He added: “I would ask that parent support this, as the progress of their child is of paramount importance in order to secure their future.”
