CULLINGWORTH school children have visited a village housing development.

Ten youngsters from year six at Cullingworth Primary were given a tour of the David Wilson Homes Hewenden Ridge scheme.

They learned about how homes could be made eco-friendly and the best materials to use for longevity and sustainability.

Following the tour, the pupils returned to the sales office for a talk on the energy efficiency of new homes compared to older properties.

The developer says research has shown that new-build homes can be up to 55 per cent more energy efficient than a Victorian house.

Stacey Berkeley, sales manager at Hewenden Ridge, said: "It was wonderful to have the children visit our development and learn about the materials used to construct an eco and environmentally-friendly home.

"All the pupils were very interested and engaged, which was great to see."

Kate Sutcliffe, headteacher at Cullingworth Primary, said the visit had been a "fantastic opportunity" for the children.

"It greatly enhanced their learning on energy efficiency," she added.

"We look forward to continuing our relationship with the site, which has already seen us bury a time capsule at the housing development earlier in the year."
