YORKSHIRE Water welcomed the 100,000th visitor to its Education Centres as part of a trip by Hothfield School in Silsden.

Headingley is a water treatment works in North Leeds where students can see how water is cleaned and how Yorkshire Water supplies supplies a constantng.

At Esholt waste water treatment students could see where water ended up once it has been using homes, and how it is safely returned into the environment.

Mr Pickering said: “It was a nice surprise to be part of the celebration day. The centres are great resources which support the national curriculum outside the classroom.

“I visited last year and my colleagues from Hothfield are returning with two classes later this week.”

Hothfield pupil Francessca Hickey, who celebrated her birthday whilst at the centres, said she hadn’t had classmates had learned a lot while having fun.

She said: “My favourite bit was when we saw what happens to the water before it comes out of our tap.”

The education centres were developed with the help of teachers to cover the core elements of the National Curriculum key stage 2, including numeracy, literacy, geography and science.
