A DONATE to charity event organised by two pupils at University Academy Keighley (UAK) has given a boost to a group which operates a mobile food kitchen for deprived people.

Year 10 students Hassan Abbas and Sadaf Tahir arranged the event for last Thursday (May 5) to support the work done by InTouch Foundation.

A spokesman for UAK said: "The students spent some weeks planning the event and advertised it throughout the academy with posters, assembly presentations to fellow students, and even by briefing staff.

"They said that if everyone donated just one item, with over 600 people in the academy this would provide a significant boost to the assistance that InTouch Foundation can provide for local families in need.

"To add a little friendly competition, donations were presented by each of the academy’s four houses. Staff and students responded in style with a vast haul of items.

"Hassan and Sadaf, who have carried out this project as part of their GCSE citizenship studies, also secured donations from local businesses Aldi, Cobbydale Stores, Lloyds Pharmacy and Sainsbury’s."

The school's donations were received last week by representatives from InTouch, including volunteers Haider Ishtiaq and Humera Naaz and fundraising manager Faisal Tariq.
