PUPILS from a Cullingworth school have plenty to be proud of following their impressive participation in a national performing arts competition.

A group of 25 students from Parkside travelled to Magna Science and Adventure Centre, in Rotherham, to compete in a contest called Rock Challenge.

This event is held all over the country and is supported by the Be Your Best Foundation, which promotes healthy lifestyles.

Schools taking part are invited to stage a seven-minute performance based on a particular theme, and are then marked on a range of criteria including set, choreography, concept and soundtrack.

Parkside teacher Emma Brooksbank said: "The students did themselves and their school proud. They had a fantastic time and were all tired out.

"We spent all day at the professional venue rehearsing and watching other schools rehearse, before sorting hair and make-up and putting costumes on, for the evening performance.

"Our students had a great day and were a credit to the school. To top it off we won three awards of excellence for the soundtrack, video performance, and entertainment. Well done to all our students who were involved."
