A PRIMARY school showed that its new playground was fit for a queen when it held a party to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

Last year Keelham Primary School’s playground was in a sorry state, with play equipment reaching the end of its life and few green areas where children could play.

After an appeal for local businesses to help the school improve the facility, an approach was made by the Leo Group, which runs Omega Proteins at Denholme, which offered a donation to pay for much of the work.

Along with donations from other organisations and money raised through school fundraising events, the primary was able to afford its first phase of improvement with a new, resurfaced playground.

The school, near Denholme, made the most of its new playground at a birthday tea party to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Although the weather was not as warm as they hoped, pupils and staff still enjoyed dressing up for the celebration, creating their own crown.
