GIRLS from Parkside School were runners up in a district-wide soccer competition.

The Cullingworth school’s year eight and nine girls’ football team that competed in the Bradford Schools five-a-side competition at Marley sports ground in Keighley.

PE teacher Mr Miller said: "They cruised through the early stages of the competition, then lost by one goal in the final,. They all played really well.”

Team members were Zoe Capstick, Jess Dyer, Bobby Humphreys, Sophie Dyson, Aaliyah Bingham, Morgan Myers and Chloe Burbidge.

The girls were joined at the tournament by Wayne Jacobs, a former professional footballer with Bradford City and Hull City.

Parkside’s year seven girls’ football team also took part in the competition and finished fifth out of eight schools.

During his soccer career when Jacobs has played for Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City, Rotherham United, Bradford City and Halifax Town.

In 2007 he returned to Bradford as assistant manager under Stuart McCall,[2][3] and in 2010 took over as manager in a temporary capacity.
