A PRIMARY school head teacher who was invited to attend a Queen's garden party has had some of her experience shared with her pupils.

Fiona Beetles, head at Sutton CP School attended the official function at Buckingham Palace last month. (May)

Several days later, children at her own school were able to enjoy their own parties a little closer to home – at Sutton Community Primary.

A spokesman for the school said: "Children and staff put on their glad rags for the event to celebrate the Queen’s special birthday and the culmination of a half term of learning called ‘Rule Britannia!’.

"After a delicious lunch the afternoon started with a visit to church, where the reverend reminded everyone that the Queen is head of the Church of England.

"We all stood and sang the National Anthem before everyone went back to school for an extended playtime.

"After play, tea parties were held in each class while two of our governors judged the home learning from the previous week and awarded certificates.

"There was plenty of wonderful creativity on show from cups and saucers for the Queen to drink her tea from, miniature gardens, crowns and hats and even new knickers for her Majesty.

"There were also lots of cakes of many shapes and size – all fit for the Queen. We had a wonderful afternoon in school and some great memories were made."
