THE Holy Family Catholic School pupil who is this year's Keighley Gala Queen says she is looking forward to representing her town over the coming year.

Paige Jones, 15, took part in her first major public engagement at Keighley Gala earlier this month and has been congratulated by her school.

She is due to appear at Oakworth Gala and Sutton Fun Day this summer.

Paige, a year 10 student who took two GCSEs last year and is studying for another three subjects this year, said she did not have the chance to be gala queen last year as she was away on holiday.

But she was chosen for the prestigious role earlier this year after meeting the gala organisers.

She said despite being very much in the public eye at the 2016 Keighley Gala she had not been nervous. Her family attended the occasion to watch her feature her in the procession.

She was accompanied by junior queen Mia-Rose Grainger, nine, rosebud Natalie Taylor, six, and pageboy Charlie Grainger, five.

When she finishes school Paige plans to become a police forensic scientist.

"I've been wanting to do this for about two years," she said. "I want to go to Leeds College to do a foundation course."
