PARKSIDE School have received some puppy love from the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Students of the Cullingworth school were highly commended in an awards scheme run by Speaker John Bercow.

The Parkside Puppy Project, brainchild of the school’s Student Leadership Team, was entered in the Speakers School Council Awards.

The team have received a certificate, and a digital badge to display on the school’s website.

The project involves each of Parkside’s form groups sponsoring a separate puppy, and learning about guide dogs for the blind.

Parental involvement worker Majella McColgan said the school was proud of its Student Leadership Team.

She said: “They have done great things for our school this year, including running the mock EU referendum last week and organising our Inter Form Quiz this week.

Annie Waddington, education projects officer for the Houses of Parliament, congratulated Parkside students for receiving special recognition from the judges.

She said: “We would really like to thank you and your school council for participating in the competition and taking the time to tell us about all the hard work that has gone into making your project great.“
