A SCULPTOR and artist from Haworth has worked with year six pupils from half a dozen local schools to design and create a striking new piece of artwork.

Craig Dyson came to St Joseph's Primary to team up with children from this school, as well as with pupils from Oxenhope, Ingrow, Haworth, Oldfield and Oakworth Primaries.

A spokesman for St Joseph's Primary explained: "The children had discussed the things they enjoyed about living in the Worth Valley and what makes our area special and unique.

"Craig looked at all the children's ideas and based the final project on their work.

"During the design workshop the children were lucky enough to learn about various techniques such as bending metal rods and finding ways to re-use materials from textile mills local to the area.

"Craig used the techniques mastered by the children to create the final piece. The materials used are from mills in Haworth."

The finished metal sculpture depicts a sheep and a Keighley & Worth Valley Railway steam engine.

The St Joseph's spokesman added: "Craig has a great relationship with schools in our area and the children really enjoyed the opportunity to work with him."
