PUPILS from Eastburn Junior & Infant School pedalled away with first place in the Sustrans Bradford Inter-Schools Cycling Competition.

A group of six riders from the school won the trophy, beating competition from pupils from other schools across the Bradford district.

Three boys and three girls from each school raced in an individual time trial, a sprint, an endurance and a team time trial. Riders’ scores from each event were added together, at the event held at the Richard Dunn cycle circuit in Bradford.

Eastburn was pushed all the way by a strong performance from last year’s winner Worth Valley Primary, from Keighley, which finished second.

Fagley Primary School was third, with Oakworth Primary and St Joseph’s (Bradford) completing the top five.

It was part of the Sustrans Active Travel project, a partnership between Sustrans, Bradford Council and Public Health to encourage schoolchildren to travel to school by active means.
