YOUNGSTERS at two Keighley-district schools have turned over a new leaf.

Keighley St Andrew's CE Primary and Kildwick Primary both staged activities celebrating Roald Dahl.

They were part of events staged nationally marking 100 years since the author's birth.

Pupils at St Andrew's read and wrote about chosen books and learned more about the author.

They also dressed-up as characters from some of the books and donated to Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, which supports seriously-ill youngsters.

The event raised £200.

At Kildwick Primary, children and staff also dressed as their favourite characters.

Pupils re-enacted scenes from Dahl stories, made 'marvellous medicine' and had parties.

And they were encouraged to get creative at home, producing models and creating 'revolting recipes' and 'poisonous potions'.

Tim Whitehead, the newly appointed headteacher, said: "It was a golden opportunity to have fun, dress up and celebrate one of the world's most published authors.

"Over the course of a week, this led to children producing an outstanding standard of writing."
