CHILDREN at Strong Close Nursery School in Keighley celebrated Eid in style.

Staff, youngsters and their parents were entertained by a dhol player from the Punjabi Roots Academy, a locally-based creative arts company which now works nationally with many organisations and communities.

Dressed in traditional costume, he encouraged everyone to join in with some bhangra dance moves and play musical statues.

There was also a range of foods to try, including poppadoms, dips, samosas, pakoras and special Eid biscuits.

Parents volunteered to decorate pupils' hands with mendhi and plaited and braided hair.

Deputy head Julie Groves said the celebration was a huge success.

"The children were encouraged to have a turn at playing the drum and most were willing to try – although some thought it was too noisy!" she said.

"The next day many were still excited and talking about the drummer.

"A large number of parents were able to stay to join in the celebration and comments included 'such great fun', 'nice to see everyone joining in and having a good time' and 'really good party – dhol player was brilliant!'.
