PHOENIX School caretaker Robert Burns is under starters orders to continue his fundraising for the pupils.

The Oakworth man will run in the Manchester Half Marathon on October 16 to raise hundreds of pounds for school funds.

Robert raised over £4,000 for Phoenix School in May by organising a Yorkshire Three Peaks sponsored walk, soon after taking part in the Keighley Big 10k run to raise money for Manorlands.

He said: “I have never run a half marathon before and it will be really hard work, but thinking of the children enjoying the extra equipment the school will be able to buy will help keep me going.”

School head Rachel Stirland described Robert’s fundraising efforts as “amazing”.

She added: “To Robert, the children come first. Our children desperately need specialised play equipment and it is great that with Robert's contributions we are moving closer to our £90, 000 target."

Robert is also being sponsored by family, friends and school staff, but any other local people or businesses wishing to support should call the school on 01535 603078.
