PUPILS from Kildwick CE Primary School enjoyed runaway success in a cross-country event.

They competed against other cluster schools in the gruelling contest, staged in the grounds of South Craven School at Cross Hills.

Points were awarded for finishing positions and collated to decide the overall champions.

Kildwick entered runners in all sections and took the title, ahead of Lothersdale and Cowling.

Top-six finishers in each category will now compete in the next cross-country meeting, at Settle.

Clare Smurthwaite, a year-six teacher and the running club coach at Kildwick Primary, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the win and proud of the pupils' achievements."

And headteacher Tim Whitehead added: "The support from parents was brilliant and you could see the grit and determination in the children's faces.

"They all gave their best no matter what position they came in."
