THE selfless charitable efforts of a teenager from Cross Hills have won official recognition.

Martha Little, a 15-year-old pupil at South Craven School, has received a Princess Diana Award for fundraising.

She was nominated by her school for her work to collect cash for charities such as Cancer Research UK, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Candlelighters.

She held sales of handmade gifts and cakes, as well as carrying out a sponsored ski from France to Italy and back via the St Bernard Pass.

Her mum, Julie Little, said: "As Martha's parents Andy and I are obviously proud of her for making the effort to do something to help others.

"Martha has been involved in fundraising since she was in year six at Kildwick School, and has continued throughout her years at South Craven, more recently doing the sponsored ski.

"She was nominated for a Diana Award by South Craven, as she had raised more than £550.

"She was very proud to have been chosen to receive an award, and attended the presentation at Leeds College of Music. Martha received her award from Yorkshire-based actress Lucy-Jo Hudson."

The Diana Award is part of a trust set up in memory of the late Princess Diana, and is given to inspirational young people who volunteer, fundraise or campaign within their communities.
