A PROJECT aimed at delivering benefits for schools and disabled people across the district has been launched.

Choices 4 All is being funded by a £310,000 grant from the Reaching Communities Lottery Fund.

The scheme, run by the University of Bradford Union of Students, aims to improve the skills of students to enable them to deliver high-quality volunteering opportunities to community groups and schools in the Bradford district, introducing disabled people to new sports, activities and social networks.

The idea evolved from the Cycling 4 All scheme, which since 2012 has provided disabled students with opportunities to get involved in cycling and other sports.

Choices 4 All is described as the “natural progression” of the project, after feedback found there was a “considerable need” to expand the activities on offer to the student and wider communities.

The scheme officially began with a student-led event, where leaders worked with schools and community groups to promote disability awareness and activities.

Project leader Adam Tasker said: “The project now has student leaders, and provides them with training, skills, qualifications and support to deliver activities for disabled people throughout the district.

“So far, we have engaged with 280 students and have a steering committee made up of 14 students from around the world. It is these students who organised the launch event and I really want to credit them."
