SOUTH Craven MP Julian Smith was quizzed by primary school pupils.

He visited Cowling Community Primary School, where he spoke to class five about his work and answered questions on a range of issues – from Brexit to his regular audiences with the Queen.

Mr Smith tweeted afterwards that it was a "great visit".

The school's headteacher, Susan Marshall, said: "He was very impressed with our year five and six pupils and wished us all a very merry Christmas!"

She added that 2016 had seen many highlights and special memories for the school.

"Our pupils have risen to the greater demands of the new curriculum and we are delighted with the progress they are making," she said.

"I am very proud that our KS2 results were ten per cent above national levels and locally placed us in the top 13 schools in Craven for attainment in reading, writing and maths and for pupils working at a higher standard."
