A DRAMA company is giving teenagers in schools across the district an educational performance on road safety.

Bradford Council’s road safety team has commissioned Performance in Education theatre company to deliver productions of Streetwise for year seven and eight pupils.

The performances will raise awareness of the risks young people face as a pedestrian, increase knowledge of how to remain safe when using the roads and encourage the use of school crossing patrols, zebra crossings and traffic light crossings.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, the council's executive member for housing, planning and transport, said: “We must do everything we can to reduce the number of casualties among teenagers.

"Hopefully this drama performance will help young people think about their behaviour as pedestrians and improve their attitude to road safety."

Traffic is the biggest cause of accidental death for 12 to 16-year-olds.

Performance in Education, which uses professionally-trained actors, stages live performances and interactive workshops and provides teaching materials and online resources.

It specialises in the PSHE curriculum.
