A YEAR ten student from South Craven School will take part in a demanding, cricket-based physical challenge for charity during half term.

From midday on February 22 to midday on February 23 Elliott Wilson will contribute towards a 24-hour cricket "net-a-thon".

This is to raise money for West Yorkshire-based charity The Cricket Asylum Foundation.

The foundation was set up to help children from deprived backgrounds enjoy cricket, when they might otherwise not have access to this sport.

A South Craven spokesman said: "Elliott is a talented cricketer for his age. He represents the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket Association and his dream is to make cricket his career.

"As soon as Elliott heard about the charity he asked to be part of it."

Elliott said: “I love playing and training, it helps me keep fit and I never stop learning new things.

"My team mates have helped me grow in confidence. Playing cricket makes me smile when things are tough and that’s what I’d like – to help make a difference to someone else’s life and give them the same sense of wellbeing.”

The net-a-thon takes place at The Cricket Asylum, in Sowerby Bridge.

At least one of the four cricket nets will be in use continuously for the full 24 hours. Individuals taking part, including Elliott, will each need to participate for at least four hours.
