SCHOOLCHILDREN across the district are being given the chance to write and perform in a musical.

There's no Place Like Bradford, devised by a group of youngsters who first came together two years ago, has been on a tour of ten schools.

The 30-minute performance was given by professional actors from Performing Arts Etc.

Now a series of workshops is planned at Easter, when young people can present ideas for further expanding the musical.

The aim is to create a 90-minute show, which will be performed by pupils from across Bradford district later this year.

The idea behind the project, which focusses on the experiences of characters living in the district at different points through history, was to give pupils the chance to explore what their home area means to them.

Support has been provided by Bradford Music Education Hub, which is led by the council.

Tony Johnson, head of the council's music and arts service, said: "The response from the young people seeing There's No Place Like Bradford has been really great.

"We are now looking for youngsters who have been inspired by this performance to add their own voices to it to develop the show further. We also want to get school pupils to perform in it themselves."
