KEIGHLEY-district sixth-form students could receive paid work experience.

The EY Foundation is offering placements to more than a dozen year-12 pupils in the region.

Would-be recruits must have been eligible for free school meals at some time in the past six years and be studying for A-levels or equivalent.

The ten-month Smart Futures programme begins with three weeks' paid work experience at EY's Leeds and Hull offices, with the chance to gain a qualification in team leading.

Since the initiative was launched nationally in 2012, more than 500 young people have been supported to find a job or university place.

This year marks the fourth anniversary of the scheme's introduction in Yorkshire.

Suzanne Robinson, EY's senior partner in Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "The programme gives young people a unique and valuable insight, not only into professional services but also a range of other industries.

"The experiences they gain open up their minds to new opportunities and boost their confidence levels immeasurably."
