STUDENTS from two Keighley-district schools were among about 70 young people who received their Duke of Edinburgh's awards at a civic ceremony.

Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Geoff Reid, presented the bronze and silver accolades at City Hall.

Pupils from Beckfoot Oakbank in Keighley and Parkside, Cullingworth, were present.

The contingent from Beckfoot Oakbank received silver badges and certificates.

Accompanying the group were the school's DoE managers, Melissa Fletcher and Rebecca Studholme.

"It was a fantastic event and a great achievement for the students – we are very proud of them," said a school spokesman.

The students – Omar Khan, James Herd, James Thompson, Sam Mawson, Rezwana Miah, Charlotte Harris and Jenny Storton – are now working towards their gold awards.

Cllr Reid said: "It was wonderful to meet all the young people, who have worked so hard and put in so much of their spare time and energy towards these awards."
