CYBER-savvy Keighley schoolgirls are being urged to sign-up for a free course.

Sessions are planned at the University of Bradford this summer for teens interested in a career in cyber security.

National education charity the Smallpeice Trust is behind the initiative.

"It's clear that cyber security is a hugely important area of expertise," said a spokesman.

"As this is an industry which is set to see dramatic growth over the coming years, there's a real need to find and develop young talented students who can be trained up as the next generation of cyber security professionals.

"There is currently a skills shortage in the area of cyber security within the UK, with a distinct lack of women entering the profession.

"The challenge is to tackle this skills shortage and encourage young girls in particular to get excited about a career in cyber security."

The courses will incorporate practical learning, teamwork and presentations.

CyberFirst Futures – for 15 and 16-year-old girls – is from July 31 to August 4, and CyberFirst Defenders, for 14 and 15-year-olds, from August 8 to 11.
