YOUNGSTERS have been warned about the dangers of playing where gas-pipe improvement and repair works are being carried out.

Representatives from Northern Gas Networks visited Kildwick Primary School to promote the safety message.

Suleman Lorgat, a customer care officer with the company, led an assembly.

The acronym SAFETY was used to illustrate the dangers – Stay away from roadworks; Accidents can happen if you play on or around machinery; Fences are there to protect; Equipment such as diggers, vans and trailers are not big toys; Trenches and holes are dangerous, and Your life is in your hands, so stay safe, play safe.

Pupils also learned the phone number to call in case of an emergency, 0800 111 999.

Mr Lorgat said: "It is so important for children to follow these safety rules in order to 'play safe and stay safe'.

"Northern Gas Networks is currently upgrading pipe works in and around Cross Hills."
