Key stage one pupils at Glusburn Community Primary School have planted a royal oak tree.
The sapling, donated by the father of pupil Kathryn Callaghan, had been grown from an acorn from one of the royal estates.
The planting marked the culmination of a busy horticultural afternoon at the school during which the children, their parents and grandparents filled 18 hanging baskets with red, blue and white flowers to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee which will be hung across Glusburn.
The school thanks Karen Adamson, of Gardener’s Choice in Cross Hills, for supporting the event.
