Generous supermarket customers dug deep to help support a leading charity.

Keighley News editor, Richard Parker, teamed up with regular columnist and in-store bakery manager, Mike Armstrong, as well as Sue Ryder regional fundraising manager, Hannah Taylor, at the town’s Sainsbury’s store on Sunday to raise funds for the Oxenhope hospice.

Richard is going the extra mile to help ensure the paper’s Million for Manor-lands appeal hits its target by running the London Marathon in aid of the charity. Sainsbury’s kindly offered £75 in shopping vouchers for a raffle on the day, plus a pitch to coin in more cash for the worthy cause. And more than £300 was collected.

Richard said: “It was an incredible effort, and I can’t thank the people of Keighley enough for their continued support. Mike and Hannah were absolute stars to give up their Sundays to help out, and Sainsbury’s Keighley charity co-ordinator, Duncan Turner, was a big help in setting up the event.”

Raffle winner was Michelle Stammers.

Richard is more than £400 short of his fundraising target. Visit virginmoneygiving.com/richardparker or call 01535 606611 (option three) to sponsor him.
