A Steeton firm has given a lift to Keighley’s BigK 10K.

Acorn Stairlifts has entered 19 teams – totalling nearly 100 entries – in the event, which raises funds for Manorlands.

Last week we revealed entries for the walk and run – being held on March 30 this year – were down on previous pre-event levels.

Andrew Wood, a Manorlands-based Sue Ryder regional fundraiser, said: “We are delighted to get the support of Acorn Stairlifts and all its staff.

“Many of its teams are filled with good runners, some are joggers and there are a number who just come along and walk it.

“Their involvement epitomises everything the event is meant to be about – people of all athletic abilities coming together for a fun morning for a worthy cause.”

The BigK 10K, which last year attracted more than 1,000 entrants and raised £49,000, is supported annually by Acorn.

Nick Wilson, the company’s operations manager, said: “Aside from the pride we get in raising money for a really worthy cause, it works for us from a business point of view, too.

“We know from previous years what a buzz there is around the place here amongst the staff, not just on the morning of the event but in the build-up and afterwards. I’d recommend other organisations get involved too.”

Race organisers are still seeking more teams and individuals to get involved in the event, which is sponsored by the Airedale Shopping Centre, White Rose Volkswagen and Convenience Hire.

Entry for teams of five is £50, which includes a banner at the start/finish area in Victoria Park. Individual entry is £12 for adults and £6 for under-18s.

All participants receive a technical T-shirt and a sports bottle, provided by Yorkshire Water.

And with the event once again being held on Mother’s Day, every mum completing the course will receive a BigK ‘K-arnation’!
