An amateur rugby league club has converted auction lots into cash for Manorlands.
The Worth Village team raised more than £800 with a charity auction at its ‘home’, the Shoulder of Mutton in Thwaites.
A cheque was handed over at the pub, which is close to the Marley site where the team plays.
The club – which competes in the Pennine League – was reformed in 2012, partly to help raise awareness of cancer.
“We particularly wanted to boost awareness of testicular and breast cancer, and even our kit choice was influenced by colours linked with cancer charities,” said club coach, Gary Baker.
“We’re therefore delighted our charity auction raised such a large amount for Manorlands.”
Club chairman, Sue Copper-waite, said: “We owe a big thank you to Andy and Lynne Beverage at the Shoulder of Mutton, who hosted the event and donated many of the prizes.”
Tribute was paid to the team by Manorlands’ Keighley fundraiser, Andrew Wood.
“This is a fantastic amount towards the care we provide, and we are proud to get the support of the club – it is a real success story,” he said.
He added the club is now organising teams to compete in the Keighley BigK 10k run
